The 'Bleater' Must Feel Stupid

isg_report_cover.jpgI think I'm beginning to understand why the Bush groupies hate the ISG report so much. Not only does it paint a pretty clear picture that Bush and the gang have been shoveling a load of BS down our throats about Iraq all this time, it is also a rebuke on every snide attack launched against those who opposed Bush's policies.

(I'm not sure if the actual recommendations made by the panel really have a chance of success, but the report appears to be thorough and independent. Picking them apart seems moot until Bush decides to use any of them, though. At this point, they're no more than a highly informed opinion with a lot of political weight attached to it. The ISG have made it clear that they view it as a comprehensive plan. )

During a little stroll through blog archives I stumbled upon a quaint little nugget written by the "bleater', James Lileks from October 2002, when the Iraq war resolution was being debated in Washington. He goes on a rant after quoting some Dem's reservations about the resolution at the time:

Hah! Hah. Just kidding. Of course he said nothing of the sort. Nor did Babbling Bobby, the Byrdman of Alcaspaz, or Rep. Barbara Lee. Ten gazillion questions that I’d like to hear posed and answered, and they babble on about our “go-it-alone” policy. How our “unprovoked” and “unilateral” attack would shatter the thick armor of international law and embolden every strong nation to pounce on its neighbor like a lion on a hobbled gazelle, how the Arab world would rise up en masse and pour into Al-Qaeda recruitment centers demanding the right to be blown up from planes flying 40,000 feet overhead, how our Valued Arab Allies would turn against us once we’d kicked their worst enemy off the planet, how it would be difficult to penetrate terrorist cells because they’d really be wary of accepting American members now, and how we would lose the high regard extended to us by the French and the Germans and every other country that wants to slap a Denver boot on our loathsome Juggernaut. Death, doom, despair, defeat - all because the United States is considering making a preemptive strike without UN approval.

Yea , who on earth would have thought to address those concerns?

This leads me to mention an out-of-the-blue forum thread posted by old skool member Goose yesterday:

In lieu of the recent bipartisan report on Iraq...all I have to say is that I have no clue as to why I supported this president and his fallacious war on Iraq. I remember coming here being the gung ho warhawk. I feel pretty silly now.

It's not so much the war in and of itself, but the treatment of this recent report. One only has to look at the disgusting reaction to the recent bipartisan report on the part of right wing media oulets like
Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. The war itself is obviously bad, but we can't even get the warhawks' heads out of their asses with this unbiased report. My disgust for the American government cannot be explained with words.

The war seems plain as day as a means for the government to dish out ocntracts to the corporations that run the government. I have a cousin fighting in Iraq, which definetly adds salt to the wounds. Him and the loved ones of others were sent to fight a war so Joe CEO could enjoy his surf and turf and Columbian coke--fuck this country.

We don't get posts like that everyday. I wonder if the 'bleater' has come out and said anything. Maybe I should look into it.

Also, on a semi-related topic, I read an interesting diary at dailykos, where VirginiaDem rants about having been labeled a traitor by some for dissenting: I'm still waiting for that damn apology

On February 1, 2000, George W. Bush conceded the New Hampshire primary to Sen. John McCain. Less than 2 weeks later, the domain name 'FearBush.com' was registered.
